About The Author

Steve is a published writer of stage plays and has written scripts for television and radio. His
television drama The Day I Played Against Imran Khan was shortlisted for the Radio Times Award. He
has directed several times for theatre and adapted Des Barry’s novel A Bloody Good Friday for the
stage. Iant is his first novel and was published by Cambria Publishing in 2021.
Steve was a founding trustee of National Theatre Wales and was on the board of Zoom, the
International Festival of Young People’s Film. He was a trustee of Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff and
chaired their Artistic Programming and Learning Committee. He was the Director of the Centre for
the Study of Media and Culture in Small Nations at the University of South Wales and remains on
their steering group.
Currently Steve teaches on courses in Design and Acting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and
Drama and is also Emeritus Professor of Theatre, Film and Television at the University of South
Wales. He holds visiting Professorships at Cardiff Metropolitan University and the University of
Winchester. He has published widely on British theatre, film and television including, most recently,
Theatre and Performance in Small Nations (Intellect, 2012) Jimmy McGovern (Manchester University
Press, 2013) and contributions to the edited collections, ‘The War on Terror’ Post-9/11 Television
Drama (2015) and Cops on the Box, Contemporary British Crime Drama (2017). In 2012, he led a
team that produced a report for the BBC Trust entitled, Screening the Nation, about the impact on
Wales during the production of Doctor Who and related television drama in Cardiff.
After living in London for a while, Steve has now spent the longest period of his life in Cardiff where he lives
with his wife, Mitch and two children Sam and Beth. The cover of Iant was designed by Beth who is
